Three disciplines,
one underlying system

I work where strategy, identity, and lived experience become one conversation. Different outputs, one design discipline — applied across organisations, brands, and the public realm.
01

Strategic
design

Framing the question before the answer. Discovery, positioning and decision frameworks for organisations and public bodies in transition.
Discovery
Positioning
Service design
02

Brand & communication systems

Verbal and visual systems built to scale. Identity, voice and templates, designed as living infrastructure rather than decoration.
Identity
Voice
Toolkits
03

Experience
& narrative

Stories placed in rooms and routes. Spatial, festival and programme design for public events, civic projects and brands.
Masterplans
Brand activations
Programmes

Selected works across three disciplines.

From London and Abu Dhabi to Riyadh and Mexico City — opening each section reveals the projects, their context and what they set in motion.

01.01

Reimagining Connections in the City

London · University of the Arts London · 2022

700,000 Londoners feel severely lonely most or all of the time. Fieldwork, expert interviews and a survey led to “A City of Intentional Interactions”, a participatory model that works from the individual to the whole city. I tested it in public with “Weaving London”, a giant loom where strangers wove their stories into one tapestry.

01.02

Interrogating the “15-Minute Neighbourhood”

London · Newham Council · 2022

The council’s housing strategy wasn’t reaching the people it was meant to protect. I co-led a research team with the grassroots group Focus E15 and shifted the framing from infrastructure to the lived reality of family precarity, health barriers and displacement. The resulting housing model was presented to council leadership.

01.03

Abu Dhabi Moves

Abu Dhabi · Abu Dhabi Sports Council · 2019

The brief was a health campaign. The real challenge was cultural, rooted in climate, tradition and the rise of e-gaming. I led the research, reframed it as a “movers’ ladder” that meets citizens where they stand, from non-movers to pro athletes, and designed the identity and campaign that carried it: “Abu Dhabi Moves”.

01.04

Abu Dhabi Transport

Abu Dhabi · Department of Transport · 2019

The client asked for a new bus livery. Research showed the real barrier was a stigma around public transport and a fragmented system with no shared identity. I proposed and designed Abu Dhabi Transport: one identity across bus, metro, taxi and ferry.

02.01

Religions for Peace UK

London · Communications officer, impact strategist · 2023–24

One brand and communication system across three sub-brands. I led the website rebuild from Figma concept to content and video, and set up the proposal templates, content calendar and KPI frameworks that let the team run without me in the room. Social audience grew by 50%. Live: rfpuk.org

02.02

Stationery chain stores DABO

Mexico City · Stationery retail · Communications officer · 2025–26

A new team with no defined role. I designed its structure, vision, mission and values, then owned the brand end-to-end: store design, in-store communication and social.

02.03

Waypoint

London · Brand and creative consultant · 2023–24

Identity for a growth-stage consultancy, carried through the website and marketing suite, with a brand guidebook so future collaborators can apply it without me.

Also in this discipline: the Abu Dhabi Transport and Abu Dhabi Movers identity systems, built to scale across government departments and public touchpoints.

03.01

Large-scale festivals

Saudi Arabia & UAE · Blink Experience · 2015–20

Creative direction and masterplans for 20+ human-centred festivals, including Formula E Ad Diriyah, Diriyah Season and a fireworks festival across 60 locations that earned a Guinness World Records title.

03.02

Freelance event work

Blink Experience · Freelance creative strategist · 2025–26

Four event brands built from the ground up, each as a complete system of platform, narrative, identity and guest journey: Riyadh Marathon 2027, BMW M Series, Mastercard Africa Ignite senior clients event in Kenya, store activation for MC Amazon co-branded credit card.

How a project actually moves.

Four phases that overlap in practice. Naming them keeps the team honest about where we are.

  1. Phase one

    Listening & discovery

Stakeholder interviews, field observation, site visits, and desk research. I gather before I shape.

  2. Phase two

    Framing

A strategic narrative: a point of view on what the project is, who it’s for and what it must change. This is often where the brief itself changes.

  3. Phase three

    Designing the system

Identity, voice, spatial rules and content rhythms, treated as one connected system rather than a kit of parts.

  4. Phase four

    Enabling handover

Toolkits, guidebooks and operating standards, so the system stays alive long after the project ships.

A practitioner on the side of change
I’m Natalya Reutova, an independent designer working across strategy, brand systems and experience. For over a decade, I have worked with public bodies, cultural programmes, global brands, growing businesses and charities across the UK, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Most of that work happens at moments of transition, when the question is less what to make than how to make it coherent.
My background is in visual communication and creative direction, with an MA in Design for Social Innovation and Sustainable Futures from UAL. I treat every project as an editorial problem: a system of meaning that has to land, scale, and outlast the people who built it.

20+ public festivals concepted and masterplanned
40+ projects led as creative lead
